The SNAP Division (formerly known as the Suffolk Network on Adolescent Pregnancy) is a leader in promoting adolescent sexual health, preventing pregnancy and assisting young parents to become healthy, self sufficient, successful adults. We achieve this by developing, strengthening, and advancing science-based policies and programs.
Suffolk County Funded Services:
SNAP has served Suffolk County since 1979, when the Suffolk County Executive established SNAP as a blue ribbon task force, and has been Suffolk County’s designated agency for adolescent pregnancy prevention and services coordination since 1985. We have a long and established record of success and expertise in planning and delivering an array of youth development, professional and community education services which focus on adolescent pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections.
The SNAP Division provides countywide adolescent sexual health education services at the request of school districts, community based agencies, religious institutions and civic organizations. Services include:
-Helping youth deal with societal pressures surrounding sexuality
-Helping parenting adolescents towards self-sufficiency and responsible behavior
-Educating youth on topics such as relationships, communication, anger management, conflict negotiation skill building, and dating through various EBIs
-Providing professional education programs on “hot topics” regarding youth
-Providing parent education workshops to help parents and caregivers become the primary sex educators for their children
-Advocating for confidential medical care and counseling for sexually active youth
The SNAP Division offers a number of special events throughout the year including a culminating event for our Leaders of the Future groups, a Family Retreat to bring families together for further education and recreation, as well as a Teen Parent Conference to provide support and resources to pregnant and parenting adolescents throughout Suffolk County.
